School Council

The School Council aims to meet every fortnight with Mrs Fairs and Mrs Noon. The Council is made up of volunteer representatives from each year group from Year 2 to Year 6. The aim of the School Council is to promote pupil voice in school so that all pupils can contribute to the leadership of the school to ensure it is full of learning, respect, and friendship.

At our meetings we plan how we will gather the views of children across the school and then work together to find ways to resolve any problems.

Children in each year group have the opportunity to air their views to the representatives, who then put over these views at the School Council meetings.  Minutes of the meeting are taken and are reported back to children, updating them on what has been discussed.

In recent years our School Council have helped to bring about improvements to school in a number of ways: -

  • Designed and introduced pupil self-reporting anti-bullying cards
  • Designed and introduced online anti-bullying cards
  • Led ideas for Anti-Bullying Week and Safer Internet Day
  • Organised for more outside eating areas to use at lunchtime.
  • Met with School Governors to discuss behaviour
  • Created class playtime playground packs.
  • We have also been working with Broke Hall Home School Association (HSA) to share our thoughts on how the playground should be developed and carried out a fundraising 'Skip-a-Thon. As a result we have two table tennis tables, a climbing wall and two three way shooters have been installed on the playground.

At the moment our focus is:

  • To gather opinions from children across the school about improvements that they would like made.

Members of our school council also make up our steering groups for our Rights Respecting School Award. We are currently working towards Gold accreditation.
