Autumn Learning

English

This term we have planned lots of exciting English activities which focus on making a strong start with writing sentences. We will also be learning how to write poems and reading and writing about a book called ‘Beegu’ by Alexis Deacon.

After half-term, we will be readingWhere the wild things are’, ‘Storm whale’ and ‘The boy who cried wolf’. We will be exploring stories with a familiar setting before the children write their own versions independently.

Maths

This term we will be focusing on reading, writing, and counting with numbers to 10. The children will explore how ten can be made through adding two parts, known as ‘part-part whole’. They will use resources to represent numbers and calculate addition and subtraction number sentences within 10 before moving on to within 20.

Later in the term we will learn about 2D, and 3D shapes investigating them in practical contexts, using real objects, as well as answering questions in their Power Maths practise books.

History, Geography, Science

In Geography they will investigate differences between various parts of the world before narrowing in on the local area, naming features and noticing the differences between towns and the countryside. We will be going on a field trip, walking around our local area on Thursday October 10th. Leaving school at 9.30 and returning at approximately 10.30. Please let your class teacher know if you would like to join us for this walk. In History we are learning about toys, now and in the past: the children will learn about how toys have changed over time. In science the children have been learning about the four seasons and noticing the changes in the weather. After half term the children will learn about everyday materials by learning how to identify, describe and classify them. In addition to this, the children will have the opportunity to carry out simple investigations exploring the physical properties of a material.
