COMPUTING
Through teaching computing, we equip children to participate in a rapidly changing world where work, communication and leisure activities are increasingly transformed by technology. We enable them to find, explore, analyse, exchange and present information. Computing can also be a creative pursuit with opportunities to express oneself by digital means. Children should be taught to not just be passive consumers of technology, but to view it as way to understand and even change the world.
At Broke Hall Primary School, we recognise that pupils are entitled to a broad and balanced computing education.
Our intention is that pupils will become digitally literate, enabling them to participate fully in the modern world.
We do this by:
• Providing a broad, balanced, challenging and enjoyable curriculum for all pupils.
• Developing pupil’s computational thinking skills that will benefit them throughout their lives.
• Meeting the requirements of the national curriculum programmes of study for Computing at Key Stage 1 and 2
• Responding to new developments in technology
• Equipping pupils with the confidence and skills to use digital tools and technologies throughout their
lives.
• Enhancing and enriching learning in other areas of the curriculum using IT and computing.
• Developing the understanding of how to use computers and digital tools safely and responsibly.
Our curriculum, which is based on the National Curriculum, provides a structured, progressive, approach to learning how computer systems work, the use of IT and the skills and knowledge needed to become competent in computing.
In an increasingly digital world there now exists a wealth of software, tools and technologies that can be used to communicate, collaborate, express ideas and create digital content.
